Salute to Senior Service Volunteers

On April 30, 2014, Regal Heights volunteer, James Rescigna, was among volunteers honored at Queens Interagency Council on Aging’s program “Salute to Senior Service Volunteers.” The ceremony and breakfast acknowledges outstanding volunteers from senior centers, social adult day care centers, and other programs, which serve the senior population. The volunteers are honored for their commitment to community service.

Mr. Rescigna, a retired high school teacher, has been volunteering in the religious and art programs at Regal Heights. “He distinguishes himself with his kind and caring approach, is pleasant and positive in his interactions, and has a helpful spirit that is always uplifting,” said Betsy Lazarus, Regal Heights Director of Therapeutic Recreation and Volunteer Services.

At the ceremony, Bruce Cunningham, Executive Director of QICA, said “The people we honor today are part of a growing volunteer army that spans our entire nation. They live with a calling and a purpose. Many do what they do, in spite of their own physical or personal challenges. They are an army on the move, dedicated to defeating loneliness, sorrow, despair, and injustice. They bring us joy, compassion, and friendship.”

Regal Heights congratulates Mr. Rescigna and thanks him for his volunteer work.
